The role of the certified school nurse is to:
- Support student success by providing health care assessment, intervention and follow-up for all children in the school setting
- Follow PA State Mandates and provide health services for all students residing in the boundaries of Pennsbury School District, including private and parochial students
- Teach and counsel students
- Responsible for the health and welfare of all faculty & staff
Education
RN with Bachelors Degree plus 24 post graduate credits Certification by PA Department of Education as an Educational Specialist
Routine Health Screenings
Pennsylvania law requires schools to conduct routine health screenings each school year to help identify potential health barriers to learning. Throughout the school year our school nursing staff will begin conducting these brief, private screenings for students.
Depending on your child's grade level, screenings may include:
- Growth Screening (All Grades): Height, weight, and Body Mass Index (BMI) percentile calculation.
- Vision Screening (All Grades): Distance and near acuity checks.
- Hearing Screening (Grades: Kindergarten, 1, 2, 3, 7, and 11): Basic hearing test.
- Scoliosis Screening (Grades 6 and 7): Curvature of the spine check.
